Creating an Active Family Lifestyle

If we have children or family members, it can be a priority to encourage healthy living and ingraining the habits of exercise and activity. When raising children in particular, we will want to make sure that they are raised in a way that ensures that they get a good head start on living healthy lives. Here are a few good ways to involve your family members in active and enriching activities.

Plan walks

Studies have shown that the earlier that we make exercise part of our lives, the healthier and happier we will be. One of the best ways to include exercise in your life is to engage in activities that are physically involved, but that may not be explicitly exercise. A good activity which fits these requirements is a walk or a hike. A walk around the neighborhood can be a great way to be active, and to have fun as well. For older children, find a trail or a longer walk, and set a more rigorous pace. Don’t forget to make it fun as well. Additionally, there is no age too early to take them on walks. If they will not be able to get up and walk the whole distance, bring a stroller or be prepared to carry them. The interaction and engagement will help their brain to develop.

Teach them to Bike

Biking is not only a great way to exercise, but can be a good method of transportation. Teaching your children how to bike, and taking them on bike rides will help them develop coordination and confidence. When they are young, a bike with removable training wheels can be utilized to teach them how. This also allows for one to cover a much greater distance when out, and so you can mix this into other activities. Maybe a bike ride to the store for a quick shopping trip. As they get older, you can trust them to go off on their own. Biking to friends’ houses and to events will teach them to be self-sufficient and independent, while simultaneously serving as a great form of exercise. Over years, including this in our lifestyle can create a drastic difference in our fitness and health. Biking can also serve as a great social activity, and many groups meet to bike long distances together. Biking is an exercise that can last your entire life.
