Reasons to Bring a Friend While Walking

Going for a walk is a great activity. It helps you stay healthy, helps you think more clearly, and can help you to get new experiences. But like many things, doing it with a friend can make the experience more than doubly rewarding. Here are a few reasons why you should bring a friend on your walks along PATH400.

Commitment

If you are trying to walk more frequently as a form of exercise, having a friend who you keep a consistent schedule with will help you stay on track. It’s easy to cancel on yourself, stay in, and watch a TV show. But if you know someone will be waiting for you, you will be much more likely to go through with your plans. This works both ways, and you can help each other stay committed to exercising consistently. Consistency is the key to being healthy.

Sharing

If you go out with another person, you can both share ideas for locations and activities. Being able to bounce ideas off of someone and learn their own favorite places will help you to have new experiences. This can help a lot if you are mixing in additional forms of exercise. Learning from one another is the best part of working with a partner or friend. Additionally, this can help you get to know the other person better. Whether it’s a neighbor, coworker, fellow parent, or churchgoer, having this time with them can help you understand them more completely. Even if you feel that you already know them well, this gives you the opportunity to see another side of them.

Safety

Most people we meet are good, kind, and wish us no harm. Unfortunately, there are some people out there with bad intentions. Having a friend with you can help to broadcast that you are not a target. While crime overall is going down, there is nothing to lose in having the extra safety found in numbers. Similarly, having a dog with you could scare off potential assailants. Thankfully, your chances of getting attacked are fairly low.

Happiness

Studies have shown that when we spend more time with others, we are more likely to be happy. Spending some quality time with someone we care about can be a huge help. In our busy lives, it’s hard to find time to just talk or have fun with our loved ones. So get out, meet up with a friend, and go for a walk.
