The DIRT: August 2019

Denise Starling, executive director of Livable Buckhead, gives us the dirt on PATH400 progress.

Hello Trail Enthusiasts,

Sorry I’ve been a little quiet lately, but that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been anything going on for PATH400…quite the opposite actually!

CONSTRUCTION

I know, I know, you are dying to know when the new part from Lenox Square to Miami Circle will be done…I hear you. And, yes, I know that several of you have been venturing out onto it to sneak a peek in spite of the locked gates – which is getting MARTA and the railroad’s knickers all in a twist.  And yes, I know our local budding “artists” have found us and are making their mark – to which I say don’t quit your day jobs.

Our fabulous construction team at Lewallen Construction and led by PATH Foundation continues to move along putting those final touches on our shining star. She still needs her greenery, her signs and stripes and, of course, all of those safety features like railings, fences and cameras (hence the knickers issue mentioned previously). We are also working on a few special touches of whimsy like the gateway at Miami Circle, the coolio new sign/fence that will be super visible from GA400, and a mural along the MARTA wall. You know – the things that make it extra awesome.  Here are some sneak peeks at some design concepts that are in the works…

TREES

Speaking of trees – this is one of our favorite stories of PATH400. One of the clever ways we bring additional resources (read “money”) into the project is to partner with Buckhead developers who cannot satisfy their tree recompense requirements within their projects. They offset the tree needs for PATH400 in exchange for credit for meeting their requirements. Camden, Element Hotel and Highwoods are all PATH400 “tree fairies” on this segment. Inquiring minds might want to know exactly how many trees are going in? Any guesses?   The person who guesses closest will win a $50 gift card.  Submit your guess!

OPENING PARTY

So, did you notice how I diverted your attention away from the opening date?!? Ok, ok, the official answer is that we have PARTY ON THE PATH planned for October 20th and would love for you all to come join us for a celebration that bridges the energy of south Buckhead and the elegance of the north, while supporting Livable Buckhead’s mission of creating much-needed community greenspace.

Enjoy an hour of cocktails and tour PATH400 with an interactive scavenger hunt, followed by dinner and dancing to the spicy sounds of salsa music from the band. Spend a fun-filled evening with friends and neighbors, while helping to support your community.

General Admission tickets include dinner, open bar and scavenger hunt.

VIP tickets include dinner, open bar, scavenger hunt, a commemorative glass, Miami Circle merchant gift bag and hand-painted watercolor map of Buckhead.

FRIENDS OF PATH400

Has your partner told you lately that they need to feel more loved?  Well, so do we!  Become an official friend of PATH400 today.

A run before work. A bike ride with the kids on the weekend. A walk with your four-legged best friend after dinner. A quick and convenient way to get to MARTA without driving. Or even just an escape to get a little of your sanity back.

There is no doubt that PATH400 has transformed Buckhead into a more connected, walkable community. Bridging neighborhoods and neighbors. However you use PATH400, consider becoming a Friend of PATH400. For $15 a year you can show your support for Buckhead’s signature greenway project, as well as ensure continued community programming.

DOG TRAINING

Speaking of your loved ones…we know that your four legged friend is probably at the top of that list, so on the last Saturday of every month from 10am to noon, our partner K9 Express Specialist comes out to Old Ivy Park to provide a little “relationship enhancement” between you and Fido.

The course will focus on the following:

  • Dog Psychology: An introduction into the mind of your dog
  • Expectations and Setting Goals: An extensive step-by-step breakdown on the process of setting your expectations
  • Corrections: Teaching your dog the boundaries of your household/environment & proper etiquette in
    distressed situations
  • Family: How to get your dog to function within your lifestyle
  • Q&A

So come out with your four legged friend and join me and Moxie for a fun and interactive morning at Old Ivy Park and PATH400!  Consider yourself warned, your dog’s behavior problems are likely because of something YOU are doing wrong!
