Construction Update

I am happy to report that we will be getting a little construction underway in the next few weeks. It is a small part, on Adina between Lindbergh and Garson, but it is one more bite of the 5.2-mile elephant.

So what will we be doing? In a nutshell, we are removing the northbound left-turn lane from Adina onto Lindbergh to allow us to gain enough room to widen the existing sidewalk to about 12 feet and still keep the on-street parking. The trail will be on the west side of the street (the side with the parking, if you are directionally challenged!). This change will also help realign the Lindbergh intersection when you are headed southbound (toward the creek) on Adina. No longer will you cross Lindbergh and find yourself in the oncoming turn lane when all you did was drive straight! Once we get the trail in place we will also come back in and add the striping and branding for the entire stretch between Morosgo and Garson so it really looks like PATH400.

DecaturSpeaking of branding…it is kind of hard to tell where PATH400 runs in Lindbergh, so we are going to fix that! Taking a cue from Decatur, we have hired local artists to develop three design concepts for the crosswalks at Sidney Marcus, Morosgo and Lindbergh. The idea here is to make it highly visible (which makes it safer when you are crossing an intersection) and fun as well. Come to our Trails, Tales and Ales event in November to see the design concepts and cast your vote for your favorites!

What about Miami Circle to Lenox Square? Unfortunately, we hit a bit of a roadbloack on this segment of the trail. Our friends at the PATH Foundation needed to make a few design changes to make it easier to build, and that triggered some additional review with MARTA and Norfolk Southern. We hope to be back at work on this section in the next 60 days, so stay tuned!
