Local Girl Scout Launches Nature-Themed Art Contest for Elementary and Middle Schoolers

Three designs to be replicated as murals on PATH400

ATLANTA – August 13, 2020 – Getting outdoors has been a common “stay sane” strategy during the coronavirus pandemic. Now a local girl scout is asking kids to take inspiration from the plants and animals that they have observed and create works of art to be replicated on PATH400.

Katie Meier

Picture Your Path is an art contest organized by Katie Maier, a rising junior at The Lovett School who is pursuing her Girl Scout Gold Award. When Maier was in fifth grade, her artwork was one of 10 designs selected for installation along the first segment of PATH400 as part of Livable Buckhead’s Playing with Shadows contest. That experience inspired her to give the same opportunity to other young artists.

Picture Your Path is open to all students in grades Kindergarten through eight living in the greater Atlanta area. Entries should be drawn in crayon, colored pencil or marker and must be based on the theme “Plants and Animals Native to Georgia.” Entries will be submitted to Livable Buckhead, and judges will select three designs to be recreated as murals on columns along the newest section of PATH400 between Lenox Square and Miami Circle. Contest entries are due on September 15.
